Microsoft today woke up and smelled the iPads. Now available on the App Store: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. We are told these are not Lite versions or ported from desktop, but full featured and robust. Free to download, they promise faithful read-only access to your Office docs. Document editing and sharing is unlocked with an Office360 subscription.

(Microsoft also announced an MDM offering that ties into Active Directory. That should be interesting to explore soon.)

Is this really Office365 for iPad?

Your rating: None (2 votes)

Aaron,

Is this is really Office365 for iPad? All the value appears to require an Office365 account:

- Editing appears to require an Office365 account
- Saving appears to require an Office365 account
- Saving appears to only save to OneDrive
- Open In . . .does not appear to be supported

WIth those restrictions, it sounds more like Office365 for iPad than Office for iPad.

The following questions come to mind and might be explored here on eiOS:
- How will enterprise IT react to these restrictions?
- WIll a future version be more enterprise friendly and if so how?
- How will this affect other cloud storage businesses such as Box?
