Apple today released a minor update to iOS 5. This update applies to all devices running iOS 5: iPad and iPad 2, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and 4S, and iPod touch 3rd and 4th Generation. Security information can be found on Apple's support site.

This update is notable as it is Apple's first delivered over-the-air. Reports indicate no issues so far. You must be connected to a wifi network (not cell) to download. Also, you need at least 50% battery life (or be plugged in) to update.

For enterprise environments, you can't prevent or force this update on your managed devices. However, you can use MDM queries to check the versions of your devices, and set policies accordingly.

Apple First Update OTA

Hi

I'm dealing with the casper suite JSS MDM

Actually the 5.01 update do not Impact any Configuration profils and as you said Aaron we cannot prevent or force it through any MDM. ( I guess)

At this time we do not have any visibility on the next Update ( as 5.1 for instance ) .known the day before spreading !
We cannot be sure that the next update will remove or not configuration profils already installed.

With a huge number of enrolled iPad. we are working as firefighters Puzzled

Well i am using iOS5.0.1 on my iPad2 but there is no improvement in the battery life. I could expect these kind of things from microsoft but not from Apple. I believe that the golden days of apple are over

Apple always provides updates and in contrast Android don't. They are doing business by making people unhappy as they force them to buy their new phones consisting latest OS.
Google must remember the thing that they can't sustain their success in long run by tricking their customers.
Apple provides updates for their old phones in return they get customer loyalty
