Hi there.
I have a request to build an office infrastructure on Mac. It'll include 25 Mac Minis, controlled and backed up by OS X Server.
The questions are the following:
1. On client machines Parallels Desktop will be installed. Are there any known issues with Profile Manager? Anything I should know about?
2. Clint machines (equipped with 500 Gb hard drive each) will be backed up via Time Machine server. I need a storage for those files, keeping in mind that server will also be used as a file server I gonna need around 20 Tb of space. Which server will be the most cost-effective for such purposes - on Mac Mini or Mac Pro? Which connection should I use to connect server to RAID for storing backups - Thunderbolt (only Mini) or something else like ethernet? Will 1 Gbit ethernet be enough for such a flow? Should I consider buying a 10 Gbit PCIe card for Mac Pro?

Thanks a lot. It's gonna be our first serious project, so help is really appreciated Smile

Mac Questions?

Hi Alexanderre,

I think most of the users of this site are focused on iOS, not Mac OS. For Mac questions you may have better luck on a site like afp548.com, which has forums. Good luck!

Feel free to reach out to me directly Alexander. I would avoid Time Machine and go with a more robust system like CrashPlan. Not a ton of thunderbolt hardware RAIDs out yet, but if you need a ton of storage you could go with a thunderbolt to PCIE adapter with a RAID card > SAS JBOD enclosure.
